Snowmass Trip 2016
This past break I traveled to Snowmass, Colorado with my family. As always, I brought along my camera and was able to grab some shots while skiing. Here are some of my favorites:
There were some huge icicles outside of the porch of our condo, I woke up one morning and the sun was shining right through them at me. I was able to catch the drop just falling of the center icicle.
Everyone that goes skiing goes on a chairlift, most of the time I'm just focusing on where I will go next, but when I had my camera with me I realized how visually interesting the perspective from the chair is.
One of the best photo-ops on Snowmass is off of a trail called Sneakys, which has some real cool looking lighting-struck trees and an awesome view of Mt. Daly.
This shot is also from Sneakys, it was a real windy day and the snow was being blown off the rocks. I could not look through the camera when taking this shot because it was so windy.
I normally don't do many creative crops like this, but this shot worked well. Our friend Jen, who works for the ski school, always takes us onto The Wall, an double black tree trail that's name pretty much sums up the terrain. I stopped half way to get some shots of everyone coming down, but they all went a different way and I ended up with a much different shot than I was going for. It still ended up being one of my favorites from the week.
These shots were taken from the new High Alpine lift, this terrain was actually closed, but apparently these people cared more about pow than safety.
One of the best hidden secrets on Snowmass is the breakfast at Gwyn's High Alpine. The building was just renovated this summer, but the food is still the same. The first shot is the eggs benedict and hash browns. The second shot is the assortment of pastries brought to each table, the fresh cinnamon rolls are to die for.
Theres nothing better than fresh corduroy-- one morning we went out for first tracks and there was no shortage of it.
